SING FOR JOY MINISTRY IN THE PHILIPPINES

My name is James Oliverio. I am a former Choir Director at Gospel Light Baptist Church, Quezon City. My 15 years of experience was tremendous and rewarding. Directing GLBC Sanctuary Choir and GLBC Chamber Orchestra was a great challenge but fulfilling. Thanks to my mentor in conducting and voice pedagogy Dr. Douglas Bachorik for taking time and training me in such a wonderful way. He’s a catalyst connecting Filipino musicians in a world of choral conducting.

Sing for Joy Philippines comes to mind after resigning as Choir Director in GLBC last March 4, 2020.

Singforjoy is an independent, faith-based ministry with the blessing from my home church e.g. Gospel Light Baptist Church. Singforjoy has daily blogs for your reading pleasure mostly music and the Bible. You can check my daily blogs on this website singforjoyph.com and be a member of this thriving ministry. Please support us in your prayers because it is very vital to sustain us spiritually, endeavoring us to continue as the Lord provides. You can help this ministry by signing-up and be a member as your prayer partners. Please support us one way or the other, edify each other until the Lord’s return.

The luminaries of Praise and Worship trends are attracting some Fundamental Baptist Churches in the Philippines nowadays.

That is why I humbly submit to you, and this is my heart’s desire to help in training Baptist churches choir and music philosophy for the edification of the saints and to the praise of His glory. Ephesians 5:19

“ Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord”

Musical Notes

Tune My Heart To Sing Thy Grace

As I reflect on this hymn, I think of my own frailties and weaknesses. I am a sinner saved by grace alone. On the third verse of this hymn, it struck me big time, “Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love.”

I remember the thought provoking statement of Pastor Graham West. He said, “If God will take away your music, will you still love Him?” https://tbbc.org.au/about-us/tribute-to-pastor-graham-west/

If I’m not careful with my walk with the Lord each day I cannot wholeheartedly sing, “Tune my heart to sing Thy grace” although this phrase is meant to pray but how sudden our hearts will change in a “sin that easily beset us”.

Thus our yearning in listening to some “spiritual songs” may “teach us some melodious sonnet”.

Our singing and listening to music truly reflect God’s holiness and therefore we’ll sing, “Here’s my heart, O take and seal it; Seal it for Thy courts above.”
